Do dog training classes really work?

April 9, 2011 by admin

We just got a new puppy and he is learning to become house trained okay, but i still don’t really trust him on the carpet. I was wondering if we took him to an hour long class once a week for 6 weeks it would help him at all. Those classes I think are mainly for socialization purposes, but the vet said our dog is very social already. Would classes make a differnce for him, not only with house training but with commands and such?

How does a whistle work with dog training? A silent one or a “normal” one?

How does one use the whistle when training a dog? To tell him “what to do” (blowing the whistle, and saying the command come, for example) or “what NOT to do”, lets say if the dog is nipping your trousers legs and you want him to stop?

Are dog training (shock) collars safe and do they work?

January 1, 2010 by admin

I am considering using a training collar to teach my dog boundaries. I need to be able to keep her off leash, but she runs off if I let her off the leash. A fence, even an invisible fence, is out of the question as its not my house. I’ve tried teaching her boundaries for the last 5 months but it is not working well. She won’t respond to “come” unless she’s in the mood. I want to use a shock collar but I worry it may be inhumane. Are they effective and are they safe to use?

Is it true that some treats work better than others when training a dog?

December 24, 2009 by admin

I’ve made progress with my dog training this evening. I got him to lay down. Twice. And he is finally going outside when I tell him to instead of pouncing on me. Yes!

Anyways, I’ve read (or maybe seen on a show) once that strips of meat work better when training a dog than biscuits. Is this true?

Thanks in advance! :D

Progress! :D !!!
Thank you all very, very much! I’ll definitely take these with me next time that I go to town! :D
