Clicker Dog Training: STOP Leash Pulling!

January 19, 2011 by admin

This is an exercise that supplements the techniques that I have presented on this topic already. It is not by any means a conclusive, end-all solution to stop leash-pulling. However, after having worked through everything else mentioned in my other videos on teaching loose leash walking, I find that a lot of dogs learn very quickly with this approach that they must not pull if they want to continue the walk. It is important to note however, that using food as a reward after every ’roundabout’ may cause some dogs to pull just so they can come around for a reward. Using food rewards occasionally should eliminate this problem. Get out puppy agility: Clicker Training

www.pamsdogacademy.com I have started some distance work with Twix and teaching him to follow my body language. He will need this skill when we are out on the agility course. I am teaching him how to go out and around an object. Many think that one should not use a pole to send a dog around and I have not had a problem with this. My dogs know the difference between 1 weave pole and 12. So, I am not worried at all that this will ruin their weave poles. Here is a short tutorial on how to train this. You might need to use food to lure your dog around the first few times. My dogs all love to work for toys, so that is what I use. They will work for food, but would rather have toys. :) I threw in some footage of Bandit doing the final product and variations of it. I also added a few tricks at the end, just for fun. :) Enjoy! Take care everyone! Pam, Bandit & Twix

Which method for dog training is better clicker or reward?

I have a 7 month old Belgian Malinois and I want to teach him some simple tricks. I don’t intend to make him a protection dog. I know it’s quite costly. I was able to teach him some obedience training like sit, stay, fetch etc. and I’m using the reward method and I find it ok. I’m just curious. Is clicker training better?

Train your dog how to greet a person – Clicker Dog Training

www.pamsdogacademy.com Check out these two videos if you are having issues with your dog jumping up on people. http www.youtube.com This is another old video of Twix learning. This is a video on how to teach your puppy to approach people with out pulling toward them or jumping up on them. The key is to capture the good behavior that your puppy does do on the way to the person. Even if that means starting much further from the person. We have practiced this with Twix a lot! So, he makes it look easy, but with a puppy that is used to jumping on people you will have to take your time and reward all those good non-jumping, calm behaviors first. Remember to have fun with your puppy or dog and if they fail that is just feedback as to what you need to do better next time to help them succeed. Have a great day! Pam & Twix
